Morrell lands government role

Paul Morrell has been appointed as the first government chief construction adviser (CCA) As CCA, Morrell (pictured) will act as a link between the government and industry and will lead the Construction Innovation and Growth Team. Former deputy chair of CAB E and previously senior partner at quantity surveyor Davis Langdon, he will now also lead the Low Carbon Construction Review announced by Lord Mandelson in September. Morrell said: "This is a tough time for the industry but now is the right time to work together. "The potential for a well-designed and well-made built environment to lead economic, social and environmental betterment remains enormous, and the challenges are matched by opportunities here and abroad.' The RIBA, which contributed to a consultation on the post in March, has welcomed the appointment, with president Ruth Reed praising him 'as an ambassador for good design'.
