The AJ is right to be concerned about the decline in architects' fees and salaries (AJ 04.11.10). This is a complex issue of prime concern for the RIBA, and we are currently working on many fronts to improve the situation. Undervalued architects and suicidal fee bids are not good for clients, and result in a paucity of architecture, as well as demean the profession. Architects can provide real benefits and value to clients, building users and the public, but it's critical architects value their services properly.
