Regarding the discussion about whether the ARB should be abolished (AJ 08.03.12), I think in terms of maintaining the public's perception of an impartial accountable body, who they can go to if they can have a complaint, the ARB is preferable to the RIBA.rnThe main problems do not lie with the ARB, but with the low levels of fines dished out to those who impersonate architects. These are restricted by law, not the ARB, to a maximum of £2,500 plus costs per offence, which is hardly a deterrent.
