University College London walked away from controversial plans to build a £1 billion campus on the 9-hectare Carpenters Estate site, overlooking the former Olympic Park in Stratford. The collapse of the deal with Newham Council was bad news for Hopkins Architects, John McAslan + Partners, Farrells, Make and AECOM, which had all been lined up to masterplan the site. However, it seems the university has not given up on its dream of moving to east London. Sources claim UCL has now shifted its focus from the fringes of the Olympic Park to actually setting up a new home within the boundaries of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as it is now known.
