South bank Things are hotting up in the continuing skateboarders' fight to save their beloved home in the Queen Elizabeth Hall undercroft from being transformed into a retail area as part of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios'£120 million Southbank Centre revamp. Campaign group Long Live Southbank has called on Lambeth Council to give the site village green status and has applied for the area to be protected as a community asset. If granted, this could protect the skatepark from development. More than 34,000 people have signed an online petition calling for the plans to be reconsidered, saying: 'The Southbank strategy is elitist and not serving local people. Many young local people start skating here, it is a social meeting place as well as a place for sport and artistic talent.'
