Leaving their city jobs in London behind, the clients wanted to build a new dwelling with garage, workshops and outbuildings and change their lifestyle by purchasing a working croft in one of the most remote locations in the UK. A ruin marks the entrance to the croft, while the edge of the cliff locates the dwelling on its site high above the water. To address the site conditions, the building consists of two volumes, one closed, one open. The first contains all serving functions to support the main open rooms. Together a place is created that provides shelter and privacy while maintaining focus on its surroundings. The two volumes are not only offset in length but also in height.
