New role for Zaha in Iraq's foreign ministry? Azerbaijan The Design Museum's decision to award its Design of the Year award to the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, last month led to renewed criticism from human rights groups of Zaha Hadid's decision to design a building which glorifies the country's former dictator. But her stock has certainly risen in Azerbaijan since the building opened two years ago. A tour guide told bemused visitors: "The architect who designed this building is now foreign minister of Iraq.'
