Alex Lifschutz, director of Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands has collaborated with manufacturer Woodhouse to create concrete street furniture. The Coda range includes benches, stools, bollards, bins, bike stands and signage and was made from concrete and ethically sourced iroko hardwood. Lifschutz described the designs as having 'clean lines and simple forms' that are 'intended to reduce visual clutter on the streetscape' and 'shaped to sit discreetly in a range of urban environments'. 'The main challenge was a technical one - poured concrete is a tricky material to get "just right" when you're working with the wall thicknesses and the quality of surface detail demanded by furniture,' he said.
