It is a relief to see that so much of the Glasgow School of Art has been saved. At one point rumours were circulating that parts of the stonework would be pulled down, which was very concerning, but, after frantic phone calls to people on site, we were relieved to hear that wasn't the case. Looking ahead, it's hard to see any alternative to faithful restoration and, given how universally loved this building is, I would be surprised if anyone seriously suggested that modern intervention were appropriate. The worst outcome would be if it ceased to be used as an art school due to safety concerns. Part of the strength of the school is the freedom it offers students in their work and it would be a great shame if that were smothered by health and safety.
