I was initially a little sceptical about the sustainability claims that have been made for Langley Academy, so I was pleased to find a building that takes a measured approach to addressing a wide range of internal conditions and uses. The building sports a DEC 'C rating with a score of 59, representing a 41 per cent improvement over a benchmark school. Significant gains have been achieved on the heating, but electricity use is average. The facility manager explained that this is, in part, due to the building's popularity with the local community resulting in considerable out of school hours use.
