摘要

Maggie's by Reiach and Hall is an exceptional building completed by, in my view, Scotland's top architect Neil Gillespie and supported by Laura Kinnaird. I was interviewed there by the BBC on Monday, and I've visited a number of times nowto show colleagues from the USA and China around. Each time I see something different and always leave deeply impressed. Health buildings, like schools, are projects where architects can do real good, to the extent that their work can extend life and improve learning. The quality of detailing is wonderful throughout, and it was clearly a labour of love for the contractors. It's a building that will even get better with age, as the garden matures, the bag-rolled joints weather and attract vines and lichens, and the Danish brick quietens. The building is secluded but not isolated; surrounded byaveil of brickwork that in places is almost transparent. It is part of the community but also private. I love it. It would be a worthy winner, absolutely.
