Formed from 2,841 cross-laminated timber panels covering 22,500m~2, this four-storey school educates up to 1,200 students. Originally conceived as a concrete structural frame, the design team made the decision to switch to a timber solution to achieve the ambitious construction programme, and to provide architectural and environmental benefits. A showcase of modern methods of construction, the building's superstructure was completed in just 19 weeks, with panels arriving with pre-cut window, door and service openings. As well as providing striking architectural features, leaving extensive areas of timber exposed offered programme savings in interior wet trades.
