Project ALEX, for the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, is the refurbishment of a Grade II-listed building and a new extension. It provides facilities for the Faculty of Art and Design (comprising Glass, Automotive Design, Product Design and Digital Media) and spaces for knowledge transfer activities to link education to industry. It was vital the new extension be as transparent as possible to express the original scale and features of the historic fabric behind. The university also wanted a truly sustainable solution to reduce energy consumption and create an inspiring place to learn.
