摘要

HGVs make up a small percentage of traffic but are responsible for nearly half of cyclist deaths. We need to give cyclists and pedestrians, as some of the most vulnerable road users, extra protection in light of the devastating factthat HGVs are such a persistent threat. To put an end to these tragic incidents, we need to ban unsafe lorries, restrict how and where they operate by moving deliveries away from the busiest times of day and ensure all lorries have direct vision and that drivers have the highest standards of vehicles and training as well as making sensory detection equipment mandatory. All of these measures would help to tackle HGV blind spots that have been implicated in so many deaths.
