THE MODERN SIDE EXTENSION

This is an uncompromisingly modern solution to the expansion of a Victorian terraced home. Designed to be 'conservation officer friendly', the project is constructed from brick, glass and aluminium bi-fold sliding doors. The main concept was a seemingly effortless structural solution that allows the existing volume of the house to slip past a brick pier in a continuation of the house's existing party wall. Thecomposition isasubtle game of solid and void, breaking down thethreshold between new and old, insideand outside. Aiming to find a modern answer to expanding theterraced home, the resulting typological solution can be replicated on adjacent properties, with the pitched roof maintaining good relations with neighbours.
