'We don't behave well when we don't collaborate'. Those were the words of Speirs + Major principal Keith Bradshaw when I interviewed him about how the lighting design company prefers to work with architects. Let that be a lesson to you: if you want to get the best out of your specialists, then it's all about teamwork. Getting good lighting on a scheme requires collaboration. Lighting designers want to be involved right from the beginning of projects to really get under their skin. You can't expect anybody to do their best work or provide a scheme that really complements the architecture when they are brought on board as an add-on at the end of the project.
