This project investigates the highly pertinent and topical issue of re-use within an architectural framework, and demonstrates how the process can be incredibly creative. Beginning with an investigation of the Den Dam district of Antwerp, the project develops a masterplan for the area and goes on to demonstrate how the components of buildings to be demolished can be re-used in the development. A catalogue of components is developed, which forms the material basis for a'remakery'-a building that houses spaces where discarded products are transformed into something new. Guro's project addresses the issue of waste and re-use in construction - a matter that must be addressed in the wider construction industry. It is incredibly well-researched, and comprises not only detailed cataloguing of all building components from a number of basic industrial buildings, but also an investigation into the potential of these supposedly 'waste' materials. The resulting project is confident and uplifting, creating an architecture with a clear tectonic expression, urban presence and social purpose.
