Heralding the new stone age

To accommodate eight apartments and two floors of office space across seven floors, the design integrates engineering, masonry and the craft of stone extraction with local history to define its architecture. Loadbearing limestone finished with ammonite shell and coral fossils supports the exposed concrete floor slabs. Internal habitable spaces are finished in European oak. Ground-level tactile details include pebble mosaic flooring, part-carved fallen Ionic capitals, Gothic carvings and scallop shell handles alluding to the site's ail-but- vanished StAugustinian abbey.
