Exhibition Review Kaunas Biennial Textile 2011

Since its launch in 1997, the Kaunas textile biennial, the most important of its kind in Europe, has been held eight times. Going beyond the traditional tapestry of its origins, the content of the exhibition has transcended the category of traditional textiles. This year, high-technology media such as LEDs and intelligent optical fibers were introduced, along with performance art. At the same time as displaying the most cutting-edge technologies available in the domain of fibrous materials, this exhibition also alludes to the trajectories fiber art has followed, from being an ornament to becoming a platform for experimentation.
