Using Fuzzy Theory to Predict the Properties of a Melt Spinning System

Though the extruder screw speed of melt spinning, the gear pump's gear speed, and the winder's winding speed are the major factors affecting the tensile strength of as-spun fibers and yarn count (denier), no mathematical model has been proposed to describe the cause and effect of these phenomena. In general, chemical fiber manufacturers often adjust such speeds according to their experience, which is both time consuming and uneconomical. Moreover, once the input parameters are set, manufacturers rarely readjust them. Thus, it is difficult to satisfy the demand for product diversity in small quantities. In this paper, a mathematical model for calculating extruder screw speed, gear pump speed, and winder speed is proposed according to fuzzy theory to improve the quality of as-spun fibers and to make the process economically efficient.
