The history of ink-jet printing of textiles is rather long. The uccessful application of ink-jet technology was developed more than half-a-century ago by Elmqvist of Sweden. He used the continuous ink-jet method in 1951 which was later modified by Hertz. Two decades later came the second major breakthrough when Zoltan invented, in 1972, the ink-jet technology of drop-on-demand. More recently, the hot melt ink-jet system (also known as solid ink-jet and thermoplastic ink-jet) was developed by Dataproducts, Howtek and Tektronix.
