A stunning dress for great occasions

The Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University has created an elegant evening dress that can grace a black tie gala or a red-carpet event. Named the Growing Breathing Shibor, this garment is described as a piece that com bines fashion, textile and concept designs. It was created through the joint effort of ITC associate professor Kinor Jiang, ITC alumnus Rose Chiu and Colorado State University professor Diane Sparks. Their aim in creating this textile art piece was to express the beginning of life from the pri mordial ooze phase, using shibori tech nique to simulate bubbles forming in the sea. Subtle shifts in colour and extrava gant texture were the main design elements used to create visual interest in the cou ture wearable art design.
