Effect of scale on a pattern of mammalian geographical distribution: a comparison between Texas and north america

Frequency distributions of the sizes of the geographical ranges of mammalian species in Texas are bimodal; aggregations of species occur in both small and large areas, with relatively fewer numbers in areas of intermediate size. Similar data, at the scale of North America, are unimodal and strongly skewed to the right.
