摘要

In this case study the author confronts contemporary attitudes about the use of technology. While discussing realistic issues including students' intimidation by technology, and the challenge to the profession of teaching to include new methods and approaches, the author cites evidence to indicate that technology does tend to be an asset in engaging students, increasing interaction, and for recognizing and encouraging feedback. By examining these issues within a practical context, the author evaluates how the role of the teacher in the classroom is changed, as well as how the students need to be made aware of the alternatives to traditional education. The time-consuming nature of creating a teacher/student dialog is cited as necessary to effectively using the technology to greater potential, but the author views this dimension as a necessary part of educating in contemporary society.
