The government of the United Kingdom said on Sept. 20 that it sought to become "a world leader in developing a balanced approach" to digital trade by developing a strategy that balanced the need for cross-border data flows against the importance of protecting personal information. "We intend to make the U.K. a world leader in developing a balanced approach to the trade in data. This involves maximising the benefits of cross-border data flows to consumers and businesses, while maintaining and promoting high standards of protection for personal data," according to the Department of International Trade.
