Swedish making did not industrialize significantly in the first half of the nineteenth century. No ironworks mechanized fully, and production levels remained steady. Important changes during this period nevertheless anticipate the more spectacular development that occurred I the second half of the century. Swedish historians of the iron industry, such as Artur Atman, have typically seen the introduction of the modern steel processes as the birth of the industrial revolution in iron and steelmaking in Sweden, and the beginning of the end for skilled forge workers.
