摘要

In the Inquiry on the Neuse River project, the initial problem posed to the students was to design a way to protect the CAAE water-quality instrument from barnacle growth. Although the students did not initially identify weather as a variable, it surfaced as a consideration based on it precluding actual testing of design effectiveness pertaining to the protection provided to the instrument from barnacles. However, students were able to test how the designs held up in extreme weather conditions, something that was not considered in the designs.
