Phil Owen visited Danley Engineering Services where he learnt how the company had adapted its expertise in carpet tufting to help develop two novel production methods for technical products: a geotextile and an artificial ski slope. Two novel technical textile production methods have been developed by a UK engineering company that normally specializes in technology for the production of carpets and rugs. The carpet tufting technique, in which needles plant yarn into a base substrate, is now being applied, for the first time, to the production of fabrics for demanding geotextile and high-performance applications, thanks to pioneering work by Danley Engineering Services, of Great Harwood, near Blackburn, Lancashire.
