Speaking on the final day of the JEC Composites Show (Paris, France, 13-15 April 2010), Vice President Sales & Marketing for US-based glass fibre yarn specialist AGY, Drew Walker, reflected on his company's purchase of a plant in Shanghai, China, less than a year earlier. It was appropriate our interview began with China because the country's composites manufacturers continue to be a major and growing presence at the exhibition. Indeed, according to Walker, in their chosen fields the Chinese will undoubtedly become market leaders. Some are already starting to compete with AGY, he said, producing glass fibre yarn for highly specialist uses and making fine yarns for applications such as electronics.
