First, it built on the contributions contained in a special issue of Peace and Change: A Journal of Peace Research, published in 2000. Second, it drew on contributions that emerged at the 2004 Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) conference held at the University of San Francisco. I say emerged because at the conference there was a plenary followed by round table discussions and, in particular, it was the remarks made by veteran Pan-African activist, Bill Sutherland which enabled the framing of this eclectic volume by Meyer and Ndura-Ouedraogo.
