摘要

In the middle of the 1980s I visited the Abegg-Stiftung in Bern, Switzerland, and its textile conservation studio for the first time. It was interesting to see what I only knew from pictures in a 40-page 'behind the scenes' book published in 1970. A second visit followed about a decade later, and I was still impressed. Today the Abegg-Stiftung and its conservation studio have existed for almost half a century. As no other, the studio has left its mark on textile conservation worldwide, and everyone active in this field knows that Mechtild Flury-Lemberg is responsible. She was the driving force behind setting up a professional training for textile conservation.
