摘要

Many companies in the United States and abroad are facing a new reality: increasing rates of retirement among Baby Boomers. As these professionals—who were born between 1946 and 1964—head off to enjoy more leisurely pursuits, organizations of all types have been forced to address staffing and succession planning. But in the scramble to find new talent, many have largely ignored an important population of aging professionals in the accounting industry: bookkeepers. The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that bookkeepers and accounting clerks will experience a 4% decline in employment during the decade ending in 2028, compared to a projected 6% increase in opportunities for accountants and auditors during the same time frame.
