One of the most significant challenges facing corporations today is the need to reduce environmental impact, without adversely affecting competitiveness. For a company the size of the technology giant 3M, with manufacturing and distribution sites in over 30 countries worldwide, this is a task of considerable magnitude. While great strides have been made at a number of firms, it remains difficult to alter the perception that profits are prioritized over real environmental change. 3M's environmental efforts date back to 1975, with the introduction of the 3P (Pollution Prevention Pays) initiative, marrying desires for both responsibility and profitability.
