ESA Experimental Micro- satellites

Teams around the world which use the terrestrial images captured by ESA's Proba-l microsatellite celebrated its 10th year in orbit in October 2011. Starting off life as a technology demonstrator, the microsatellite - just a cubic metre in volume - turned into a highly effective Earth observation mission which to date has acquired nearly 20 000 environmental science images with its main Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS). The microsatellite also has a smaller imager, the High Resolution Camera (developed by the Belgian company OIP Sensor Systems) which provides black-and-white images with 5-10 m-resolution.
