Report Recommends Upgrading QZSS from Demo to Key System

A key consultative committee has strongly endorsed the devel-opment of Japan's Quasi-Zenith GPS augmentation system and recommended that a messaging capability and perhaps other functions related to disaster management be added. The en-dorsement boosts the prospects of the Quasi-Zenith Satellite Sys-tem (QZSS) to make the transi-tion from a single-satellite tech-nology demonstration to a key part of Japan's space infrastruc-ture, according to committee members.
