Because of the increasing importance of memory technology as a technology driver as well as a system-level ena-bler, a new memory conference was installed in 2005, in which process I was one of the privileged first committee members: the International Conference on Memory Technology and Design (ICMTD) was born. Being a major success, it was decided to continue this conference in 2007, again on the beautiful peninsula of Giens in the South of France. For this second edition, I was asked to take up the role of General Chairman. In the process of selecting papers the programme committee already identified several outstanding papers and we discussed with the SSE editor Prof. Sorin Cristoloveanu for eventual publication of extended versions of these papers in SSE which he actively supported.
