Ontario awards contracts to wind projects that will tap planned 500-kV line

Fourteen of 19 wind energy projects awarded contracts July 4 through the Ontario Power Authority's feed-in tariff program will connect to the provincial ngrid through a new 500-kV transmission line expected to be completed in late 2012. nThe power authority selected 19 wind projects and six solar projects for contracts through its feed-in tariff, or FIT, program, which provides fixed, above-nmarket rates for the output over a 20-year period. The Ontario government, in its announcement, touted the latest round of FIT contract awards as creating n5,000 new jobs.
