Experts: Clean Power Plan polling offers lessons for future regulation

A new survey shows that support for the Clean Power Plan and other climaterninitiatives increases when such policies are paired with an aid packagernfor coal communities, tax incentives for reducing energy or other incentives.rnThe new polling was presented Sept. 12 at The Brookings Institutionrnin Washington, D.C., by primary investigator Steven Kull, senior researchrnscholar and director for the University of Maryland School of Public Policy’srnprogram for public consultation. Described as a “policymaking simulation,”rnrespondents heard competing arguments on clean energy issues includingrnthe Clean Power Plan and different regulatory approaches to address greenhouserngases. Experts and a Congressional staffer from each party vetted therncontent of the survey.
