Most U.S. coal industry CEOs saw their salaries increase in 2016, arnyear marked by extensive weakness in the coal market and a swell ofrnbankruptcies.rnIn 2017, the industry has largely reorganized, shedding debt and evenrnfinding new opportunities with investors that are again willing to bet onrncoal. Of the 10 coal-company CEOs in an S&P Global Market Intelligencernanalysis, only two earned lower total adjusted compensation in 2016rncompared to 2015. Many of the executives saw large increases in theirrntotal adjusted compensation in 2016.
