As can be seen from the reproduced Railway Clearing House overview map on the rear cover this is an area where routes are duplicated and lines cross the map like spilt spaghetti. This book covers the ex-Midland route via Dore & Totley to Sheffield Midland rather than the more easterly route to Sheffield Victoria. This view is amplified by the number of maps included showing the tangle of lines at the local level (for example in Chesterfield) and the size of the necessary siding areas, the notable example here the Brightside area with a further tangle of lines serving industrial premises away from the main railway alignment. Traction types included have the usual wide spread of types old and new, one interesting inclusion is an ex-WR Swindon built cross country DMU type later drafted onto the Eastern Region to augment the Trans-Pennine services. The saddest image, Class 50s being scrapped at Booth's.
