At a first glance of the title one can hear the cry, 'Oh no, not another book of recollections!' but in this case you would be pleasantly surprised or at least the reviewer was! Yes, this is a book about the railways in Scotland in the 70s and 80s but it is told in a humorous but very down to earth style. It soon becomes obvious that Arnie Furniss just loves the railways of Scotland. From his forays over the Border from Manchester as a teenager with his friend setting off in the early hours of the morning to later longer journeys. For the later solo trips a map, timetable and a copy of the Ian Allan 'Loco Shed Directory' were the invaluable items. As visits became more frequent a camera was added. The story as the author relates is reminiscent of many told by others in other regions of British Rail.
