International Trade Data System Streamlines Processes

More than 200 years ago, when the U.S. government began tracking international trade data, there may well have been only a handful of national trading partners and even fewer government agencies that actively followed trade data. Not anymore. The U.S. Treasury Department now estimates that more than 100 federal agencies have a significant interest in international trade. At the same time, the explosion of international trading partners has added to the complex task of collecting and reporting trade data. Thus a few years ago, Treasury developed the International Trade Data System (ITDS) to standardize and harmonize the collection and dissemination of international trade information.
