Promise in the Pipeline

Over 300 million people around the world suffer from an acute shortage of drinking water. A case in point is central Venezuela. There, Siemens helped build a 73 km pipeline — much of it running uphill -to supply the rapidly growing Valencia region. Three million people - about 15% of Venezuela's total population - live in the country's central region. For years the region has suffered from a shortage of drinking water because nearby Lake Valencia is badly polluted as a result of waste discharged from local industries.
