The small island of Lundy, with its sheer cliffs and granite outcrops, stands isolated in the middle of the Bristol Channel. Although few people live there, visitors enjoying a day trip or having a short stay significantly boost the numbers on the island, particularly in the summer months. However, communications between island and mainland have not always been as good as they are today, and only relatively recently has the link to the mainland been timetabled on an annual basis.
