The big Tall Ships 2000 programme began in Southampton in April, and as reported in the June issue of 'Ships Monthly', the start of the first race to Cadiz was delayed by storm conditions. There were just four vessels in Class A, in which the Polish full-rigger Dar Mlodziezy had a decisive victory by two days over her near-sister, the Russian Mir. Kruzenshtern failed to finish by the cutoff time, while the Dutch barque Europa retired, along with both the Class A II vessels, Asgard II and Eye of the Wind; there were no entries in Class B.
