Peter Knego takes a cruise aboard the Croatian-registered passenger ship Dalmacija and traces the career of this 1965-built classic that will be cruising the Adriatic and Ionian Seas once again this year. It was with tremendous anticipation in late October 2005 that we clambered with our luggage onto one of Venice's crowded vaporetto water buses destined for the San Basileo terminal to board our home for the next week. The foamy green waters were crisscrossed with small vessels ranging from private boats and yachts to water taxis, gondolas and other vaporetti craft serving a number of routes. Although the city's busy tourist season was nearing its end, a few cruise ships and ferries were still in port.
