Tony Davis traces the rise and fall of Regency Cruises, an ambitious company that gave its larger rivals a run for their money when it bravely tried to change the image of cruising in the mid-1980s. Over the winter of 1985/6, cruise ship operators looked forward to the results of what was to be a good season. New ships entering the market during the second half of 1985 included Carnival's Holiday, while the newly-rebuilt Costa Riviera, as well as P&O's Sea Princess and Cunard Princess, began inaugural winter programmes from Port Everglades.
