On 3 December 2010 HMS Ark Royal (R07) sailed into Portsmouth as the Royal Navy's flagship for the last time, bringing a rather sudden end to her career as the Royal Navy's flagship. Her commanding officer described the day as 'sad' as the ship returned to her home port for the final time before being decommissioned, with crowds braving ice and snow to watch the flagship arrive through thick fog.
