HMS KELLY

Kelly was one of a class of eight K class light destroyers and was built by Hawthorn Leslie at Hebburn-on-Tyne in 1938. She measured 356ft 6in by 35ft 9in, and her two-shaft Parsons geared steam turbines gave her a top speed of 36 knots. Her armament comprised six 4.7-inch guns mounted in twin turrets, two forward and one aft, four two-pdr and eight 0.5-inch guns for AA defence, and ten 21-inch torpedo tubes. She was fitted out as a destroyer leader and carried a crew of around 220 officers and ratings.
