The changes are not large but, to me, persist in the direction of detachment from the bones of seafaring expertise towards a level of 'daddy, daddy, look at the big boats, daddy'. In this I refer to the increasing lack of knowledge about ships, which results in ignorant media descriptions of any naval vessel as a 'battleship' and readers enquiring about the notional deadweight of a container ship, when it is the responsibility of Ships Monthly to illuminate and not embarrass.
